Castle Townshend has been the seat of the Townshend family in Ireland for many generations. The centre part was built around 1650. The original Castles were destroyed in the 17/18th Centuries. The two towers were then added to the present Castle, using the stone from the ruined Castle. It stands in spacious grounds facing southeast, overlooking the peaceful waterfront of Castletownshend harbour.
The castle contains much of the original furniture, portraits and oak panelling. There are 7 guest bedrooms which are are all ensuite with bathroom or shower room, most of them have lovely sea views.

Very good b&b in a fantastic location. Warm welcome from the owner and a perfect stay in the peace of the bay. Wonderful breakfast, really more than enough. Good food served at Mary Ann restaurant just 2 minutes away walkingSSSSS

Its location on the water is great, but that is the only really positive thing I can say. First, we were greated by the owner in her t-shirt and cut-offs--not very professional. And this property could be so much better if only they got rid of, or stored, half the items on display furniture, pictures, glassware, etc and cleaned up the rest. The place was too cluttered and those items on display were dirty and not maintaned. It gave the castle an unnecessary "dingy" look. There was also a child's playset in front of the property taking away from the "castle" appearance of the place. A large tent was also erected in front of the castle obstructing the water view, but I'm not sure it was a permanent fixture. All in all it did not look like the picture above. The rooms and breakfast were acceptable considering the rest of its problems. SSSSS

Interesting house in suberb location. Room comfortable and spacious but en-suite a bit small.
Great facility to sit outside and enjoy view was marred by hordes of wasps which need to be attended to.
Breakfast could be improved.SSSSS
